Weekly Content Update Newsfeed

Each week we create an update newsletter containing brief summaries of the new content added to KnowledgeLeader that week. This update newsletter is available to KnowledgeLeader members in the form of an email. If you would like to receive this email and are not currently receiving it, please contact us.

In addition, the update is available to all visitors and members in the form of a news feed. Feeds allow a user to read news, blogs, and other items from multiple sources collected together in a single place, at time chosen by the user. Feeds avoid the need to ‘surf’ to many different websites or read multiple ‘newsletter’ emails to obtain this information.

You can subscribe to the KnowledgeLeader Weekly Update News Feed (http://www.knowledgeleader.com/RSS/knowledgeleader) in a number of ways, depending on how you want to be able to access the information:

  • Click here to add the update to your My Yahoo page.
  • The Firefox and Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) browsers have built in capabilities that allow the news feed to be automatically recognized and viewed. In Firefox simply view any Knowledgeleader page and click on ‘Bookmarks.’ In IE7 view any Knowledgeleader page and click on the orange ‘feed’ icon on the IE toolbar.
  • Using the Google feed reader copy the URL/shortcut shown above and paste it into the ‘Add a feed’ section.
  • To read the update in a stand-alone feed reader/aggregator program copy the URL/shortcut shown above and paste it into your chosen reader (see below for suggestions).
How do news feeds work?

News feeds use RSS (usually taken to mean Really Simple Syndication), a format designed for publishing and accessing news, blogs, and other Internet content. Almost anything that can be broken down into discrete items can be published as a feed: news items, the "recent changes" page of a web site (such as the KnowledgeLeader weekly update), even the revision history of a book.

New content items are organized into individual elements. These elements are gathered into "feeds" or "channels" by topic or content type. A program that understands feeds can then check for new content or changes and gather them together, for the user to read when convenient.

Feed readers and news aggregators

To view a feed users need either to use a browser or portal that ‘understands’ feeds (e.g. My Yahoo, Firefox), or install a feed reader or news aggregator on their PC and then copy and paste the URLs of one or more feeds into the program. Typically the program will scan the feeds (according to a schedule set by the user) and let the user know when any of the feeds change. The user can then view the content of the feeds at his or her leisure.

There are a number of feed readers and news aggregators available. Two simple, free, readers are: The following readers provide more facilities, but require purchasing Other possible readers are listed here.
