This tool provides an overview, key risks, expected key controls and questions to consider for the employee leave benefits process.
Employee leave benefits are designed to help employees balance their work and family responsibilities by allowing them to take reasonable unpaid leave for certain family and medical reasons. The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) are federal laws that companies must abide by. All other benefits, including short-term/long-term disability and other company leave policies are generally a matter of agreement between an employer and an employee (or the employee's representative).
