Modernizing Legacy Systems at Financial Institutions

It has been three years since Protiviti published “The Road to Renewal: Modernizing Aging Core Systems at Financial Institutions.” Technology and consumer expectations have both evolved considerably since that time. The cloud has matured and gained acceptance as viable infrastructure and architectures supporting microservices and application programming interfaces (APIs) have also matured to create new opportunities.

This paper discusses several core modernization strategies and explains how organizations can choose which strategy offers the best approach to their specific needs. It is intended to serve as a good case study for how to address this critical challenge.
