Harassment Policy
Ensuring a Safe and Respectful Workplace for All
This sample Harassment Policy is designed to empower organizations to prevent, identify and address workplace harassment. By providing clear guidance on policy creation and enforcement, this tool helps companies foster a respectful and inclusive environment while reducing legal and reputational risks. It provides practical guidance and proven strategies to help organizations uphold high standards of workplace conduct and compliance.
This tool includes two samples, each offering distinct yet complementary approaches to harassment prevention and response. Sample 1 defines the scope and seriousness of harassment, including detailed explanations of prohibited behaviors and consequences for violations. Sample 2 expands on these foundations by highlighting specific protections, outlining supervisor responsibilities, and describing confidential procedures for reporting and investigating complaints. Together, these samples demonstrate how to implement comprehensive policies that safeguard employees and reinforce a culture of zero tolerance for harassment.
Sample procedures include:
- All company leaders are responsible for maintaining a workplace free of any form of harassment.
- If a complaint or allegation is made against a business leader, Human Resources will designate another representative to meet with the complainant and the accused.
- Each supervisor (e.g., foreman, supervisor, manager, director or executive) is responsible for maintaining a workplace free of any form of sexual harassment.
- Any employee, supervisor or manager found, after appropriate investigation, to have engaged in harassment of another employee will be subject to appropriate disciplinary action, including termination.
