Best-Practice Procedures for Workers' Compensation Management

Download our detailed workers' compensation policy sample to enhance your organization's injury reporting and management procedures. This tool outlines procedures for providing employees with a safe, healthful working environment, as well as a method for obtaining the appropriate workers' compensation benefits. This policy stipulates that all employee work-related injuries or work-related illnesses must be immediately reported to the employee’s immediate supervisor and human resources, whether or not the injury/illness appears serious.

Any employee who does not immediately report a work-related injury/illness will jeopardize the workers' compensation benefits to which the employee may be entitled. For job-related injuries or illnesses, medical care will be provided for work-related injury/illness, including surgical and hospital care and other necessary treatment. This includes nursing, medicine, therapy, surgical supplies, crutches and other apparatuses for which there is reasonable need.

Procedures in this sample include:

  • Employees who are off work for XX calendar days or longer will receive compensation payments retroactive to the first full day of absence following the timely reporting of a job-related injury or illness.
  • Employees who do not have Extended Illness Bank (EIB) hours may use accrued PTO.
  • If later the employee is awarded workers' compensation benefits for days one through seven, and the company previously paid the employee EIB and/or PTO, the employee is required to reimburse the company.
  • Hours will be credited back to the employees’ EIB and/or PTO bank as they are repaid.
